Jimmy Bullard

Re: Footballers you have played against
Scott Parker and Michael Beale were probably the most memorable.

Both just operating on another planet. I played at a decent level as a teenager and Beale was the best I ever played against. Surprised he didn’t make it.

Charlie McDonald gave me the run around too.

Had a prematch kick about with Vinnie Jones in LA when he played for Hollywood Utd. I played for HU in the late 80s with the likes of Paul Cook and Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols. All part of the Btish contingent at the Cat & Fiddle (happy days)

Played in same team with Lee Bowyer at grassroots

But I'm going to count coaching kids as an adult then half a dozen who've gone pro in top four leagues and others playing National League etc.

Many kick-abouts with all the Spurs team under managers Gerry Francis and Ossie Ardiles.

They used to train in a (public) park in north London. I was at university and had a part-time job as Park Ranger in two parks. Easiest job I ever had!

I played one of the Germans in escape to victory and knocked out sly stallone during training for giving me " a dirty look " they hushed it up but for me it's a treasured memory!

Played alongside muzzy izzett at primary school. Was always going to make it as a professional. He was and still is a west ham supporter. How he slipped the net to the sexton Blake's is beyond incompetence.

Played regularly with Ronnie and Alan Harris on the pitch at our local park, still got a few scars on my shins.

Steve Gatting, Brian McDermott and Jimmy Gilligan all at Stamco in Sussex in the 90s. I was a right back so marked McDermott who was top quality both on and off the pitch.

Gerry Armstrong he was playing for Worthing after finishing at Brighton.

Mark Barham ex Norwich and Brighton, playing for Southwick in the Sussex County League.

Glen Burvill ex West Ham Utd Youth don't think he played first team, he was player manager at Newhaven. He was playing centre half, I caught him in possession and scored. He was not happy!

As it turns out, it seems this is just an UNhappy co-incidence.

I also did a crossing and penalties session with Big Neville Southall and their main keeper that year, Thomas Myhre.

Southall was getting old and fat by then, and later went on loan to Stoke.

He still saved three of my seven penalties - and got hands on two others.

Re: Footballers you have played against
I can sort of cheat here...

Played in a couple of light Everton 5-a-side training sessions way back in 1997/98 season, while doing some work with the club on Merseyside.

Got to play against, and with, Bilic, Big Dunc, Even Bigger Nev, Gary Speed, Hutchison, Nick Barmby and others. Think Fran Jeffers was there, too, IIRC.

Ridiculous levels, some of them were at. Spent 15 mins trying to get a single touch when playing against Bilic. Barmby's movement off the ball was obscene and Speed was a beast who could run all day.

But it was all very mild stuff during their easy/recovery sessions.

Re: Footballers you have played against
My first men's team was a Ford's works team. They were a group of mates who were friends with Glen Thomas who played for Barnet in the Third Division as it was at the time (fourth tier). He just loved playing with his mates so would come over on a Sunday as a ringer - and even though he wasn't really trying he was ludicrously good. He was a hard centre-half professionally but would glide past people in midfield like Gazza for us. As a naive 16 year old I asked him what he earned, which didn't go down brilliantly.

You may remember him from marking Robbie Fowler when Fowler scored five against Fulham in one of his first Liverpool games.

Off topic, is your username a tribute to Ferris Bueller's principal, (the actor who played him, ending up being a sex offender)

Or just a happy co-incidence.

I've been in a 6-a-side side that's beaten a 6-a-side side that contained a player who was in an 11-a-side side which beat Man U in a League Cup game.

I've got one over Alex Ferguson

Re: Footballers you have played against
Notice the name Bellingham pop up a couple of times below....I played in the same school and Sunday teams as Bellinghams dad. Wand of a left foot, and liked to dish it out a bit too. I like to think he benefited from playing with me and this experience has been passed on and made his boy the player he is today! haha.

Few years back, went on holiday and there was a 6a side held each evening on the hotel pitch. Some bloke showed up just wearing swimming shorts, trainers no socks and aviator shades....did NOT look the part at all.
A couple of young Coventry academy lads were playing too, and they seemed to be mocking the appearance of the guy that had turned up so ill equipped for a game.
The guy in shades subsequently nutmegged one of them about 3 times in 5 minutes, and bossed the whole game....turned out his name was Bart Goor, former captain of Anderlecht, Feyernoord, Hertha Berlin and 80 odd caps for Belgium. Easily the hardetst hitter of a football I have been on the same pitch as!
